Afrodite Zegers & Lobke Berkhout

The Netherlands / 470 Class

Info

In the autumn of 2018 the Dutch 470 team decided to split up and follow their road to Tokyo 2020 seperatly, this ment that Afrodite Zegers was looking for a new crew, and she knew there was only one option, Afrodite needed to convince Lobke Berkhout to start sailing the 470 again!

Although Lobke quit 470 sailing after the 2012 Olympics she kept sailing in various types of big boats and competed in the Women's  International Match Racing Series. When Afrodite reached out to Lobke she felt she has to give it one more try in the 470 to win that missing gold medal! After the silver medal in Beijing 2008 and bronze medal in London 2012 there is only one missing...

Only one week later the fresh sailing duo hit the water in Medemblik and six months later, in May 2019, they took bronze at the 470 Europeans in San Remo. That's where they also met the Dutch qualification requirements. At the Worlds in August 2019 in Enoshima they managed to qualify the country. The first big obstacles were out of there way!

They are now in full preparation for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, with a year extra the team is better prepared then ever!
