The 27th edition of the Magic Marine Easter Regatta was freezing cold but the breeze provided excellent racing for the 260 competitors representing 13 nations. Last year, the top three came from the land of cheese, windmills and covered in Orange, this year it is again a young sailor from the Netherlands who will win the coveted Easter egg, Philip Meijer. Second is David Labrouche (GBR) and in third place is Bart Lambriex (NED), the winner from last year.
With changing weather conditions, the children “enjoyed” their days of racing on the Dutch lake Braassemermeer. We are amazed that they have the energy each day but it must be something to do with the enthusiastic Race Committee giving away Easter eggs dressed in bunny costumes!
The last day the fleets are separated in gold, silver and bronze fleets. The wind increased again which made it even colder! The hero, Bart Lambriex, had a few bad results on Sunday which made it difficult for him to defend his title. Philip Meijer’s picture will be placed on the Easter Egg as winner off the 27th Magic Marine Easter Regatta.
As it is Easter after all, the starting vessel has some special guests: chickens on the boom, Easter Bunnies at the stern and Mister Chicken is watching from the bow. On Sunday, even real-life Easter Bunnies is giving the event site a visit. Combined with the presentation for the competitors, from current 470 youth champions on Saturday evening, the overall message is obvious: keep having fun while sailing!
