The 11th edition of the Raid Emeraude, long distance cat race with whom Magic Marine have had a faithful partnership fom the start, was staged last week-end in the Bay of Saint Malo in North Brittany.
Summer was not on the agenda for the 224 racers of this event. On Saturday, 20 knot winds, well formed seas and fog were the conditions for the 89 adult crews on the startline. It was unusual, at this time of year to see the show of Magic Marine Full Wetsuits and Drysuits on the contenders as they left the shore.
The fog started lifting as the first cats rounded the Cap Frehel, the wind mellowed to around 15 knots and the sun made an appearance – making perfect conditions to finish this race.
A Mini Raid , open to sailors of 12-16 years – and totaling 23 boats, was organised in a more protected part of the bay - This junior raid, started last year, has now become a regular part of the event.
Sunday was foggy and windless and at midday, the race committee took the wise decision to cancel the day’s racing .
As always, on land and sea, whatever the ranking or weather conditions, all public were warmly welcomed by the Saint Lunaire Yacht Club and their very professional organisation.
